We’ve been in the roofing maintenance business for over thirty-three years. And in that time, we’ve come across quite a few people who’ve had negative experiences with DIY roofing. Some of them have lost limbs and even died from attempting to get on the roof and do something that they aren’t comfortable doing.

I like to use the mountain goat analogy. If you go on a fishing trip on the Lower Deschutes River, just up the Columbia gorge, you’ll see really steep, cliffy mountains. On the sides of those mountains are goats that look really comfortable hopping, jumping and skipping all around on those big slopes.

That’s what we’re like at Roof Life of Oregon. We are used to being on a roof, and take every precaution to stay safe. Flat-landers are used to working their corporate jobs on level ground. In fact, 97% of all roofing accidents happen on the transition from the ladder to the roof or vice versa. It doesn’t matter if the roof is high- or low-slope, you take a huge risk of losing a limb and ruining your quality of life.

We’ve also seen folks ask their gardener to go ahead and get up on the roof and blow off the leaves before he blows them out of the flower beds. Well, if he falls off your roof and sues you, your insurance claim will deny it, and then that gardener owns your house. Now what are you going to do?

It’s just not worth the risk. At Roof Life, we are licensed, bonded and insured. Our guys are the mountain goats on the Deschutes River. I’m a 270-pound man, but I’m a granddad of a goat. I’m used to climbing on roofs and focusing on that transition.

The point is quality of life is worth more than saving a few bucks to do it yourself. You won’t get the roof as clean as we can get it and it won’t last as long anyway, so do-yourself-a-favor and let us do the work for you.
