Your Roof Needs Lifetime Components

Posted October 30, 2015 by Patrick Morin

If you put a thirty-year shingle on your roof, you’ve got to make sure that all of your components will last thirty-years as well. At Roof Life of Oregon, all our new roofs get lifetime, matching components. Unfortunately, most new construction homes aren’t installed this way.

We maintain 11,000 roofs in the Portland area that were installed by someone else. Over the years, we’ve found that many installers like to save a few bucks by installing roofing components that aren’t going to last as long as the roof itself. We see this a lot with cheap pipe flashings and can vents. We only use metal can vents, but we find a lot of plastic. The problem is, years of UV exposure make the components on your roof super brittle. When the wind moves them, they crack and can just snap right off.

When we get up on your roof for a well-care checkup, we even check your skylights. When the outside seal is dried out and cracked, it’s time to replace it. If you don’t, you’re soon going to see water coming through the ceiling that could cause a lot of damage. All of that could be avoided by installing a lifetime component in the first place.

You need components that match your roof: lifetime pipe, lifetime can vents, lifetime flashings, lifetime underlayment and a lifetime install. Because we manage roofs put on by everybody else, we find these component failures and we replace them with brand new ones that will last the life of the roof. We can put a roof on a well-care plan, replace the worn out components, and make sure your roof is not only beautiful and healthy, but lasts longer.
