Shayla: You are listening to the Roof Life of Oregon podcast and I’m talking today with Jerry. Jerry, why can’t a customer just call you guys up and get a bid emailed to them for their roof?

Jerry: That is probably the most frequently asked question I get on a weekly or daily basis from all the people that we go to see. The biggest reason why we do not email bids out is because you have no idea what is actually in that bid and what’s being put into your roof. There are so many components and so many different options that you can pick for your roof that you get to drive the budget. We do not like to say, here, here’s your good, better, best. $2,000, $3,000, $4,000. What does that mean? What are you actually getting in that roof?

The advantage that we’ve had for over thirty-five years is we’ve maintained all of these roofs that were good, better, best. We have seen all these good, better, best options fail because the client didn’t really fully understand what was going in there and they didn’t even have the options of saying, well, I want better wood for my roof. Why didn’t the roofer put better product on there to begin with? Why am I installing a new roof today?

That’s really what it comes down to is you may not have questions today, or you may not have problems today, but you will have problems down the line and you’re going to question why didn’t they do it a little bit better. So when we sit down with you, you are going to have those options. You get to select the material, you get to select the paper, the wood. We are going to guide you and we are going to tell you what the advantages and disadvantages are of each product, but ultimately, you have the decision on how you want to spend your money, not just some guy saying, “Here’s your price. You want it? No? Okay. I’ll go to the next one.”
