Shayla: Thank you for joining us today for the Roof Life of Oregon podcast. I’m talking with Patrick Morin. Patrick, you guys had a stormy, stormy season last year. And I know you were a really busy. Touch a little bit on that today. Have you guys caught up on all the work that you were backed up on?

Patrick: Well, the answer to the question is yes, we have. Thank heavens. Our treating ability is based on routing and weather and mother nature decided sometime in June to start cooperating a little bit, and so July, August, September, and so far in October we’ve had two teams out applying out our moss deterrent product and we have caught up. So we are ready for what’s going to happen. Obviously, if you’ve lived here in Portland at least a year, we experienced the leftovers of a tsunami here in Portland last year, where we had two and a half inches of rain in a very short period of time. It took our roofs that were kind of laying back and relaxing and chilling, and it just came at them with wind and rain, and then we all thought, wow! And then that was the beginning of basically seven months of unrelenting storms. We set seven state records in seven months. One snow and ice, one wind on April 7th (that was an oddball one), and then the other five were rain amounts.

The amount of rain in our calendar year is 33.3 inches. But the way that we’re getting the rain has changed in the last five years. We’re getting it in storm surges, and wind, and angry and coming at the roofs. It used to kind of just do this for nine months and just sprinkle and rain all the time. You don’t tan in Oregon, you rust, kind of fun things. But it’s changed.

And so the roofs, they were all put on five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five years ago. They were put on in an environment that is just rain kind of a little bit all the time, but this all new experience of extremism has really pushed these roofs and sometimes they fail. And that’s why we’re here.

We’re in our thirty-fifth year, or we started our thirty-fifth year on March 4, so that makes us 7 months into our thirty-fifth year. And we’re not going anywhere. I’m the oldest and I’m only 56, and there are 42 of us here that are committed to helping you maintain your roof and when the weather finds a way into your home somehow, maybe gutter issue, a flashing issue, a shingle issues, something coming off, and you have an emergency, we’re ready for you. We have a lot of teams that are here and at Roof Life, because our everyday work is well care, meaning that we help thousands of people just keep their roof going and healthy, when you have a leak, you go to the front of the line. So you’re not going to be put off six weeks until we get to you. We’re going to do everything we can to get that leak stopped. If we can’t for any reason, we’ll help you mitigate it, as simple as putting a little hole in the sheetrock and catching the water, rather than the whole ceiling drop. Just have it come through a little eighth inch hole that you put there with an ice pick or a screwdriver that we’ll help you with.

But that’s one of the unique things that I find in the Portland area is when the weather exceeds your roof’s ability to keep the water out, call Roof Life of Oregon. We’ll help you either mediate it or fix it as fast as humanly possible.
Shayla: And before you go through another season of stormy weather in Portland, it may be a good idea to reach out to the team at Roof Life of Oregon for a well care check and make sure your roof is up for the challenge.
