Shayla: Thank you for joining us today for the Roof Life of Oregon podcast. I’m talking today with Jerry who is a roof specialist at Roof Life. And, Jerry, when we’re getting our roof replaced, how do we know if we need to replace our gutters as well.
Jerry: I do get that question from time to time, actually quite often. When people get a new roof put on their house, they naturally just want to get everything taken care of. It’s a very natural thing to look at your gutters, because a lot of people feel that it’s the same component, that it’s all part of it. But in reality, it’s two different things. We can replace your roof without touching your gutters and you can replace the gutters without touching your roof. But what we have found typically is you do not need to replace those gutters, especially if they’re only like twenty years old.
What they typically would need is they just need to be cleaned up. They need to be tuned up. A lot of people will call us like, “Well, I have water leaking everywhere,” or “the downspouts aren’t working and they just look really ugly.” A couple simple things. Clean the outside of them. Do a gutter clean, actually clean the insides, get them all cleaned up. But the part that found where the biggest problem is is the downspouts, because when they put those downspouts on your home, it’s usually a builder’s grade gutter system, and they give you this little tiny whole to put a leaf this big inside of it or on top of it and just plugs up really quick.
So typically, you don’t need to replace them. Just get a gutter tune-up. When you’re getting your roof replaced, ask us to look at your gutters, and we’ll let you know whether they need to be replaced or not. We don’t replace them. We refer those out to a company who does a great job, but we’re not going to replace them, if they don’t need it. Just have us take a look and you know what? You just need a simple tune-up. Save you some money. Save you some time and some headache and you still have some great gutters and just move forward.
Shayla: So if you have any questions about what we’ve talked about today, if you want to know the state of your gutters, you can always have the team at Roof Life of Oregon check it out when they’re out there providing your well care maintenance for your roof. Thanks, Jerry.
