We get a lot of frantic phone calls because people realize they have a leak and don’t know what to do. If you look up at your ceiling and see a little bubble forming, the first thing you should do is quite simple: grab a bucket, place it under the bubble, and poke a small hole.101_0004

Grab a little needle or something sharp and just poke a hole right in the middle of the bubble. The water will drain out and into that bucket on the floor. By doing this, you’re eliminating a lot of sheetrock damage. If you were to let that bubble grow, you’d be repairing an entire section of sheetrock, instead of just a tiny hole. This is the first cost-saving trick we tell people to do.

After you’ve released the water, go to our website at Rooflife-Oregon.com. There is an emergency leak button in the top right corner of the page. After you click that button, someone will call you within five to ten minutes to assist you. If it’s after hours, we’ll answer and get you on our schedule for the following day. We’ll be able to give you some ideas on slowing the water down until we can get someone to your home. Slowing the leak is one of the most important things you can do. That small hole you poke does a lot more than you think it does.

During daylight hours, we like to get someone out there that same day. If you call in the evening, it will have to be the following morning. As much as we’d like to help you that night, OSHA doesn’t allow it. Dark of night and slippery roofs don’t create the safest situations.

If you happen to spring a leak this season, stay calm! Poke a small hole, and then get ahold of Roof Life as quickly as you can.
