5 Ways to Know You’re Getting a Good Roof

Let Us Help

Over the last 35 years, we have watched the good, the bad, and the ugly come into the Portland market, do their messing around, and then leave. Sometimes escorted by the state, but many more times escorted by clients. So how do you know you’re getting a good value for your re-roof? Here are 5 clues.

1) A pre-audit of your roof.

At Roof Life of Oregon, we pre-audit the condition of your current roof. We see what material you have on your roof, how it’s going to come off, and what new material you’d like to use. Our goal is always a 9 to 10 percent net profit. So we use the pre-audit to make sure we’re providing the roof you want, at a price that hits that profit margin.

2) A guarantee of adherence to manufacturer procedures.

If you want a manufacturer’s warranty on your roof, you must follow all of their requirements. That warranty is important because manufacturers are billion or multi-million dollar companies, while roofing contractors might only be worth a million to ten million dollars. You want that liability to lie on the manufacturer, rather than a slaphappy roofing company that’s going to be here today and gone tomorrow.

You need to hire a company that guarantees your roof will be installed up to manufacturer’s specifications.

3) A team that is paid by the hour.

Are the roofers paid by the piece or by the hour? Paying a team by the piece incentives fast work, but it doesn’t incentive precision. When you pay someone by the hour, it ensures they will slow down and install a roof correctly.

4) A team that is managed.

Will somebody come to the job site every day and look at the performance of the crew? We manage our hourly guys and make sure they are meeting all the requirements of the manufacturer, as well as following safety procedures.

5) A Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.

Finally, what kind of workmanship warranty does the company provide? After our final walk through, we provide a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty on our roofs. We are the only ones in Portland that do so.

If a company only offers you a five or ten year workmanship warranty, you’ve got to ask yourself why they won’t insure their roof past that point.

True value pricing includes following the regulations of the manufacturer, applying roofing material to those standards, and managing hourly employees to ensure quality and correctness. It may cost more, but you’re going to get the best roof in Portland, rather than one that’s going to start leaking in 6-7 years.
